Myotherapy is here to help reduce your muscular aches and pains by assessing and treating dysfunction in your soft tissue structures (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia).
Your soft tissue can quite often cause a variety of discomfort, pain and dysfunction around your body from local tenderness, referral pain to other locations of the body, limiting and restricting full range of movement through joints and overall feeling of fatigue and aching pain.
There are many reasons as to why our muscles end up in this condition creating dysfunction and pain, some of these include trauma (via injury), poor postures, stress, overuse, fatigue and repetitive strain.
Some conditions that we would treat on a regular basis are:
Treatment and management of muscle pain with Myotherapy is done using a variety of techniques from soft tissue manipulation, trigger point therapy, dry needling, deep tissue massage, hot and cold therapies, muscle stretching, corrective or rehabilitative exercises. These techniques allow our patients muscles to feel relaxed with reduced/no pain, less restrictive and increased strength and flexibility which then begins the process of creating healthy functional muscles and soft tissue.
Meet our Myotherapy team
I am passionate about health, wellbeing and facilitating the body to function at optimal level. My aims are to improve mobility whilst alleviating pain and to have a positive influence on people’s lives. I am continually inspired seeing firsthand the improvements in range of motion, pain relief and overall health of clients receiving Myotherapy treatments.
Shakti Gawain said “Our bodies communicate to us clearly and specifically, if we are willing to listen.’ I have found this to be true time and time again throughout my career. I place focus on understanding the cause of discomfort rather than just the symptoms in order to maintain the benefits of treatment in the long term.
Joanne Spriggs joins our team at Contagious Enthusiasm, after having worked for the last six years with clients with chronic conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Motor Neuron Disease and Osteoporosis. Joanne completed her Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy in 2005 at RMIT University, and in 2009 Joanne commenced work as a teacher within the Myotherapy and Remedial Massage programs at RMIT University. This enabled Joanne to combine her two passions of treating clients and teaching students. During her career as a Myotherapist, Joanne has been privileged to have had the opportunity to work alongside other allied health practitioners, soft tissue therapists and a variety of clients, with varying conditions and complaints.
Joanne’s background in exercise science coupled with her qualification as a Myotherapist enables her to view and treat the whole person, by placing a special emphasis on looking at a client’s overall general health, wellbeing and fitness levels. Joanne has a particular interest in treating musculoskeletal conditions associated with poor posture and headaches.
In 2007 and then again in 2010 Joanne took some time off work to give birth to her two gorgeous girls, Grace and Piper. These days Joanne aims to balance life as a busy Mum, Myotherapist and teacher with her other passions of yoga, hiking and maintaining her overall personal health and wellbeing. As a Myotherapist Joanne’s philosophy on treating is very simple, empower your clients through knowledge and always smile!
